Interview with Theresa on her supportive team business

Owning your own business can be a lifelong dream for some of us. For others, it’s a necessity. I interviewed Theresa Tabinski-Hurst about her business Grow Essentially. She’s a passionate doTERRA Wellness Advocate, and she’s using her direct sales business as a foundation to build her own brand and blog. She loves her supportive team that encourages her to keep going.

Read on to find out about Theresa and how her business has helped her conquer anxiety, and begin to build a business to last a lifetime.

1. Theresa, introduce yourself. Where are you from and what do you like to do?

Hi, I’m from Cambridge Ontario. I’m a wife, mom and step-mom to 2 girls, and my furry feline, pure white long-haired Ragdoll cat Cashmere. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for 6 years now, after I made the difficult decision to leave my office job. I have been sharing my passion and love of doTERRA essential oils for about 15 months now.  Fun fact – I like to crochet to de-stress & I really enjoy Treetop adventure courses; they make me feel strong and confident in my body 🙂

2. What is your business? 

My business is called Grow Essentially. And I am a doTERRA Wellness Advocate.  I educate, inspire, and empower others and their families to use natural health solutions. I help them to take charge of their physical, emotional and mental health and well-being to become the best them that they can be. One of the tools I use to do this is doTERRA Essential Oils. 

3. How long have you been working with your company?

I have been using and sharing doTERRA essential oils for around 15 months now. But it has only been since I have attended convention in September 2017, that it hit home for me what I can create. So, in October I decided I wanted to get serious about sharing my passion and building my business.  I want to create the freedom I know I am capable of creating.

I hit the rank of Elite in November. This is a huge accomplishment for me.  Now I see how far I have come in my personal growth and development to overcome my own personal anxieties. And it is a major first stepping stone for my business. The rank of Elite averages around $300 USD per month. I’m currently working towards the leadership rank of Silver which averages around $26,592 USD per year (which equates to roughly $28,285.58 CDN).

4. Why did you want to work from home/work for yourself? What is your “why”?

I want to have the freedom and flexibility in my time to be with my family, to express my creativity, & to explore life’s wonders. And I want to take proactive care of my health and wellness through good organic food, and “clean” products. I also make regular visits to my natural wellness supportive team like my chiropractor and massage therapist. And I want to build community with other like minded individuals. I’d like to share with them and inspire them to have courage and overcome obstacles like anxiety that I am learning to overcome.

5. Why did you pick this business? Did you look at any other businesses? Have you tried any others before this one?

I have tried other Network Marketing opportunities in the past and even tried to run an Etsy shop, but none of those other opportunities allowed me to really bring out my passion of helping other people and having a supportive team. They also didn’t allow me to build a financial “pipeline” that would bring me the freedom I’m searching for. 

The doTERRA opportunity really aligns with me because I can express my creativity and passion.  I love sharing something I know works with others that because I’ve experienced the benefits myself. Also, the product sells itself because of its quality. And it’s a consumable product, which is another key thing to look for when looking for a good opportunity. I also fell in love with the integrity of the company and their philanthropic efforts. doTERRA truly is amazing!

6. How many hours do you work every day/week? What kinds of things do you do to make money?

Some days I spend a whole day passionately involved in creating and sharing.  And other days I only spend an hour. It’s hard for me to add up hours because I love what I do and don’t always feel that what I am doing is “working”! 

I am working towards a goal of hitting the Leadership rank of Silver. So I would have to say that I’m investing around 10-15 hours a week building my business and sharing to reach my current goals. During that time I’m teaching classes, and meeting others 1:1 to teach them about essential oils.  I’m also furthering my own essential oil education. And I share and connect on social media.  As well, I’m continually supporting my team of essential oils users through further education.

7. What do you like best about your business?

I love the amazingly supportive team culture. doTERRA and my team have created such an amazing and inspiring community of support, motivation, inspiration and friendship. We make it a priority to build that kind of supportive team culture because we know all too often people can feel isolated in their at home business opportunities. So we make sure to foster those connections.

8. How would someone start a business with your team?

Starting your own doTERRA business is simple. You can get started for as little as the cost of a wholesale membership, which in Canada is $42. Or you can start with one of doTERRA’s many kits to equip with the tools you need to start sharing right away. 

Then you take advantage of doTERRA’s amazing Loyalty Rewards Program to qualify for commissions. This program is truly amazing.  doTERRA rewards you for continuing to invest in your health monthly, with free product points and even free products on qualifying orders. 

To qualify for multiple levels and categories of commissions you simply need to continually invest in your health by placing a minimum order through the Loyalty rewards program valued at 100 points (pv) or more. This is super easy to do once you start shifting what you’re spending on your current less healthy options of home, health and beauty care products to doTERRA’s awesome products that help instead of harm.

This is why I like it

One of the things that drew me to this opportunity was its ease! Other opportunities I’ve tried before had a minimum requirement of sales in 2-3 rolling months in order to stay active.  Others have a minimum of personal sales in a month to qualify for a percentage of team commissions. I don’t have to worry about that with doTERRA. As long as I place my personal order of 100 points (pv) or more, I qualify for the different levels of commissions. This makes it super easy for anyone to start and sustain their business.

Sharing with others 1:1, or teaching group classes to introduce others to the benefits of essential oils and helping them get started on their journey is where you’ll make your Fast Start money.  And that is what will sustain you as you begin to grow your business. As your business grows so does your residual income,  which will eventually surpass what you make in Fast Start money. This is what I mean when I say “building a pipeline.” You can make your first $100 in your first class, and your first $500 in your first month. It’s all up to you and how fast you want to grow your business and the time you’re willing to invest doing so.

9. What do you do to help your new team members succeed?

I am there to mentor them and guide them along their journey. I provide them with the tools to help them get clear on their why.  And I help them choose a mentorship program to follow to create a solid foundation with ease.  Then I help point them in the direction of further tools for education and support. Also, I coach them and assist them in their first classes, so that they can feel confident in their abilities. And I encourage them and continue to foster that community culture and relationship with my team members.

10. What kinds of expectations should someone new to the business have?

Network marketing is an amazing vehicle to build your own freedom and not someone else’s. With that said, you can expect that the amount of your paycheck will be directly affected by the amount of time and effort that you invest in income producing activities.

If your goal is to simply share enough to cover the cost of your oils, then you can expect to invest roughly 3-5 hours a week towards building your business. That will create an income of roughly $300-$700 USD a month.

If you’d like to supplement your income, you could do so in about 6 months to a year by investing 10-15 hours a week. You can expect an income of roughly $700-$4,500 USD a month.

And if you’re someone who has big goals to grow your business fast so that you can create total financial freedom in 1-3 years then you’re looking to invest 15-30 hours a week to growing your business. You’ll want to create a Gold level – Diamond level income of roughly $4,500-$16,500 USD per month. And you can keep going from there. There is no income cap in doTERRA, so you can continue to build and grow your financial gains as big as your heart and dreams desire 💕.

11. Anything else you would like someone to know about you or your business?

I am full of heart and passion. Being someone who has learned to overcome anxiety to follow my passions and build my business I understand the journey and so can relate to the fears and doubts that some of you might have. It is possible if your vision is clear enough and and your want strong enough.  You can create anything you put your mind to. If I can do it as a stay-at-home mom, with a one income family, and anxiety, You can too 😊!
